It doesn’t mean what you want it to. A troll is a very specific type of person that is defined by characteristics other than being a person you think is rude. The word “troll” has an illustrious history that derives from a number of mediums, concepts and mythologies, and may well be on its way to losing its current, useful, original meaning, but we should protect it.
You must be careful to only refer to someone as a troll when they exhibit the same detached amusement characteristic of someone searching for lulz (in its true, original meaning). Is the person being provocative solely to get a rise out of seeing you get annoyed or otherwise make a fool of yourself? Then they are a troll. Are they simply being abrasive because they don’t like you and are actually emotionally attached to you or the community they’re provoking? Then they are not a troll, and if you call them one you are crossing the concepts over in order to discredit them, and, in the process, diluting the meaning of a good word. Fuck you.
